The Annapurna Himal is a vast massif of several peaks above 7,000m, part of the range forms a natural amphitheater known as the Annapurna Sanctuary, sorrounded by giant peaks like Annapurna I, Glacier Dome, Gangapurna, Fang and the Fishtail peak of Machapuchhare. Using a lesser known approach route we visit the marvellous viewpoint of Poon Hill before descending to the Modi Khola valley and into the gates of the Sanctuary. Passing directly below Machhapuchhare, we have a couple of days to explore the nature's amphi-theater before getting back to Pokhara via different attractive routes. This is a fairly strenuous alpine trek that gives the healthy walker close-up mountain views no less marvellous than any other in the Himalayas.
