As we begin our journey to Pumdikot Shiva Mandir, we leave the bustling Lakeside area of Pokhara behind and ascend the winding hillside roads. The city slowly fades below, replaced by peaceful forests and glimpses of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre peaks in the distance. After about a 20–30 minute ride, we arrive at the temple grounds, perched at an altitude of around 1,500 meters. The first thing we notice is the towering 108-foot Shiva statue, rising majestically above the landscape — a serene figure seated in meditation, surrounded by a white stupa base. We begin walking along the beautifully laid 108-step stone pathway, each step symbolizing spiritual progress. Lining the way are 108 small Shiva lingas, adding a sacred rhythm to our climb. As we reach the top, the panoramic view takes our breath away: the entire Pokhara Valley, shimmering Phewa Lake, and the snowcapped Himalayas stretch out before us in every direction. Standing beneath the statue, there's a deep sense of peace — a blend of spiritual energy and natural beauty. Prayer flags flutter gently in the breeze, and we pause to take photos, reflect, or simply sit in silence. Around the site, there are ongoing developments like a model Mount Sumeru and a planned Martyr’s Memorial Park, making this not just a place of worship, but of national pride and harmony. As the sun begins to dip lower in the sky, painting the mountains in golden hues, we begin our descent with full hearts and quiet minds, grateful for the calm, the views, and the unforgettable presence of Lord Shiva watching over Pokhara.
