En route, visit the beautiful Mahabalipuram (also known as Mamallapuram), which takes approximately 1 to 2 hours to reach from Chennai. This is a busy port town that is famous for being a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are over 40 monuments and Hindu temples located in the town.In Mahabalipuram, explore the Mahishasurmardini Cave, Tiger Cave, Krishna Mandapam, Five Rathas, and the Shore Temple. After covering all these sights, head back to your hotel for some rest, and in the afternoon you will be covering the Auroville commune. On the way you will be exploring some of the most popular temples in Kanchipuram, which is also considered one of the holiest cities in India. You will be visiting Kailashnath Temple (also known as Kailasanathar), Kamakshi Amman Temple, Vaikunta Perumal Temple, Varadharaja Perumal Temple (also known as Arulmigu Sri Varadharaja Perumal Temple) and Chitragupta Temple. Upon visiting these religious temples, you can listen to the pleasant sounds of temple bells, Hindu priests reciting holy mantras, devotees praying, and conducting pooja rituals. This will surely help to provide serene and peaceful energy to your day and help you foster spiritual growth. After visiting all these historical temples, continue the drive to Chennai from Kanchipuram, which takes approximately 2-3 hours to reach. While at this beautiful beach, you can take a walk around, take stunning photos and videos, and even go shopping at the small souvenir shops by the beach. After visiting the beautiful beach, you will head towards one of the oldest temples and the pride of Chennai, the Kapaleeshwarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. At the entrance, you can see an approximately 37-meter-high tower (gopuram) that has many sculptures of Hindu deities, which is surely a magical sight to witness! The temple also has colorful mandapams (pillared halls for public rituals) and prayer halls that you can explore. Then, you will visit Fort St. George (closed on Friday).
