Lo Manthang is Buddhist terms; it means southern plateau of Arya. This tiny kingdom was once an independent Buddhist kingdom in Himalaya, later Prithivi Narayan Shaha’s Gorkhali force annexed to Nepal. After that Upper Mustang was isolated from another world until 1992.
